Celebration of Charles’s Life will be held at 2:30 pm Saturday April 21, 2018 at Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong, IL.

Burial will be in Oblong Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1:00 -2:30pm Saturday April 21, 2018 at the funeral home.

Charles Lee Ruddell, 94, of Robinson, IL passed away on Saturday April 14, 2018 at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, IL.

He was born in Oblong, IL on April 23, 1923 to Arthur George Ruddell and Jane (Moomau) Ruddell.  On August 30, 1942 he married Cora G. Riker who preceded him in death on October 11, 2014.  They had been married for 72 years.

Charles had worked in oil production for Tidewater Oil Co., Getty Oil Company and Texaco Inc. He worked on rigs, as a pumper and as an operator. He retired from Texaco Inc. in Odessa, TX in 1986 after 37 years. He served in the United States Navy from 1943 -1945 and served in WWII. He was part of the U.S. Navy Seabees, 87th U.S. Navy Construction Battalion, Co. B.  He trained at Camp Peary, VA; Camp Endicott, RI; and Camp Rousseau, Port Hueneme, CA.  He served in the Pacific Theater. Engagements included Treasury; Bougainville; and Okinawa. He was also a member of the Oblong High School Class of 1941. Charles enjoyed fishing, doing yard work, tinkering in his workshop and working with his hands.  He was a longtime fan of the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs. He was also a fan of the University of Illinois Fighting Illini.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law Barry Ruddell, Brooklyn, NY, Brian and Debby Ruddell, Champaign, IL; three daughters and son-in-law Twylah and Gerry King, Robinson, IL, Claudia Ferguson, Garland, TX and Christie Hoffer, Loveland, CO.  He is also survived by seven grandchildren Geoffrey R. King, Sara K. Sutter, Andrew P. King, Jessica P. Ruddell, Benjamin Ruddell, Charlie R. Hoffer and Jacob Hoffer; nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant son Larry, three brothers Karl, Arthur and Harold Ruddell; and three sisters Bernadine Boyd, Pauline Carey and Josephine Lowther.
